The second song of the new album “Revelation” is called “Scroll“. Today, we would like to present the song’s lyrics and thus continue our journey through the Book of Revelation.
After we had had a look into God’s throne room together with John (see Song 1 “Throne”), we now behold in the hand of him who sits on the throne a scroll that is sealed with seven seals. This is described in Revelation chapter 5, verses 1-14. No one is found who could open the scroll, but then we see the Lamb of God sitting on the throne – it is an image of Jesus Christ who, as so-called “Lamb of God” was executed by way of crucifixion to pay for the debt which separates every man from God. After the death on the cross and after he was resurrected from the dead three days later, he ascended into heaven to be given a place of honor. This is the Lamb of God on the throne that is described in this song.
Following this, the lyrics now tell us of the four living creatues we already met in “Throne” and the 24 elders. They bow down before the Lamb of God and sing: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open it’s seals”. The opening of the seals will unleash horrific events, all of which will be portrayed in the next songs with the sheer might of symphonic heavy metal. Here are the complete lyrics for “Scroll”:
Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept because no one was found to open the scroll when an elder said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion has triumphed. He opens the scroll and its seven seals.”
Then I saw a Lamb in the center of the throne. He had seven eyes, the seven spirits of God. The four living creatures and the elders bowed down, holding bowls of incense, the prayers of the saints. They sang: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open it’s seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every people and nation.
Then I heard the angels, thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
