Band Interview Of The Day – Sanity

1. If could introduce yourselves for us, who are you?

We are Sanity, a symphonic metal band from Berlin. Sanity, that is our singer Florian, our drummer Philipp, our bass player Silas and myself the guitar player (Julius)

2. How did you all meet?

Philipp and Florian are twin brothers. They formed the band back in the 90ies. Silas and I met them at our local church and our shared undying love for metal set us up perfectly to be in a band together.

3. How long have you been playing?

Sanity plays since its formation in 1994. After various line-up changes Silas joined the band in 2019 and I joined shortly after.

4. What three words would you use to describe the music you play?

Thoroughly arranged aggressiveness

5. What are your musical influences?

We are all rooted in metal but come from different corners. Florian and Philipp are influenced by black and death metal while Silas comes from black and symphonic metal. I have my roots in progressive and thrash metal. My biggest influences are Dream Theater, Megadeth and Death.

6. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen during a show?

At some of our shows we had a presentation with our lyrics running in the background. The weird thing I saw was people sitting down to read the lyrics instead of banging their heads off. I could never do that listening to music that intense.

7. Being away from the stages in the last few years, where was the first place you visited when the restrictions were lifted?

As a Band we played some local gigs in Germany, nothing special. Me personally I saw the Neal Morse Band in Hamburg after the pandemic. That was a stellar experience.

8. What’s the one record you own but wouldn’t ever admit to owning?

That has to be Huey Lewis and the News – Fore. No that’s no joke or reference to American psycho. I genuinely think it’s a good record. I may have discovered it through American psycho though.

9. What have you been listening in the last few weeks?

Now I’ve admitted it I can talk about it. I love to listen to Huey Lewis and the News with my wife. On my own I listened to some Meshuggah which is always nice.

10. Are there any releases you have planned in the near future?

Yeah! We just released ‘The Beast’ and it’s available on all streaming services. Together with last years ‘Revelation’ they are parts one and two of the grand revelation cycle. And its not done yet. The final piece will be released next year and I’ll tell you a secret: it will contain two of my favourite songs from the revelation cycle. Looking forward to it!
